Meaning of Tribal Tattoos
Tribal tattoos were originally used by native americans as a form of permanent tribal identification. In Alaska, tribal tattoos symbolized that a man had killed an enemy in battle. In California, tribal tattoos marked the location of a person's supernatural powers.
Nowadays, tribal tattoos are chosen among actors because the monochrome coloring and bold lines of their designs are read well by cameras. What is know as tribal tattoos these days, mainly originates from the tattoo work of Leo Zulueta. His designs were based on traditional designs from Borneo, in particular tribal designs from the Dyak tribes.
